New London Beautification Committee annually recognizes businesses and organizations that have made a positive impact in our city via landscaping. We also thank people who have helped NLBC out in some way during the year. We usually make these presentations at a City Council meeting at City Hall, but due to the COVID-19 restrictions this year, we scaled down these awards and broke with tradition by awarding our recipients on site.

2020 NLBC Award: We are pleased to announce that the New London Maritime Society received NLBC’s Annual Award for their Briny Bank garden alongside the Custom House.

This garden was created with help from the community. Cadets from the USCGA dug out the very poor soil in the proposed garden site. Sara Munroe from Studio 33 oversaw a fundraiser that helped purchase some truly magical soil from Acer Gardens. For a garden that’s only one year old, it is thriving stunningly well. Susan Tamulevich accepted the award on behalf of the NLMS next to the garden.

Thank You Recognition: We are grateful to Cliff Marlow for his generous donation of a big pile of river rocks.

Our dry riverbed in the deck garden at Ocean Beach Park had been needing some attention for several years, so we used the donated rock to refresh it. Cliff accepted the award in front of the dry riverbed.
